Steve, the Dockmaster, went out of his way to make sure we had a great stay. We will definitely stop here again. Nice for a quick stop especially with the shoaling at the entrance to the Anchorage across the canal.

The high outside dock in front of the restaurant prohibited us from getting on and off of the boat at low tide. The boat traffic both large and small, rocked us all night long.There is no bath house, so that is certainly a “con”. The restaurant was the only real bright spot for this location. This is a great place to stay. Tom, Steve, Olivia and staff were great- friendly and professional and the restaurant is also great, it’s on the bike path and water taxi is available to cross over to town.

Current runs strong up to 2.5 knots. Tom the Dockmaster was very friendly and helpful.He guided us in to our spot over the radio and took our lines on arrival. Great help from Dockmaster and dockhand. The Army Corp had actually closed the C&D Canal due to fog.

On our way from Cape May to Baltimore. Liked it so much we stayed a second night. Quaint town and very nice restaurant.
Easy access to water hose and electric hookup. The only draw-back is that there are no showers. Even a cold water outside rinse off shower would have been nice. Nice folks running the docks (inc their staff).

Schaefer's Canal House is a hidden gem along the Northern Shores of the Chesapeake Bay. Located in Chesapeake City, MD, the deep-water marina is nestled on Back Creek, which branches off of the Elk River. Good dinner at the restaurant. Restaurant is good and convenient. Currents not a significant issue when taken bow first.
I had a cold beer and thought of the sounds as a funky reggae beat. Great location midpoint on the C&D canal. A band was playing, dinner was being served along the docks, and after a quick shower on board, dinner on the dock was fantastic! The band continued after we went back on board, and it added to our cocktails on the flybridge. Schaffer's is a desirable destination, not just a great marina and restaurant. Beautiful view of a competitor across the Canal, too.
The available amenities of the docks, which are located outside of a restaurant and bar, are noted on the Snag-A-Slip profile. The marina does offer restrooms, but a bath house is not an available amenity. We had a really good experience here.
A little crazy on a holiday but the staff is great and works hard. We will definitely add Schaefer's to our 'must return' list. Dock hands were very helpful ,especially with their current and friendly.
At the end of the block, carefully jaywalk across Pacific Avenue. Follow the path on the other side of the street past the very large, very modern, high tech house with big windows for a few yards until you reach the first of six canals. Your best option in this neighborhood is the centrally located Hotel Erwin. With its funky décor, rooftop lounge and ocean views, this property puts you right in the thick of it all and is within walking distance of the canals. You can also score a package with surf lessons. Venice Beach Walking Tours offers organized strolls, but the area is easily self-guided.
